This entry-level, online medical coding course is applicable for beginners with no experience up to seasoned coders who want to earn the CPC credential.  By the end of this training, you will be fully prepared for the CPC exam and ready to start your journey as a Certified Medical Coder.

According to the AAPC Salary Survey 2025, the average salary for a Certified Coder is $66,979, 8.5 percent more than their non-certified colleagues.   Earning the CPC credentials shows employers you have a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct diagnosis and procedure codes for professional physician services.

Education and Experience:

If you are new to the medical profession, you will need to take the Fundamentals of Medicine Course, prior to starting your CPC course.  This course will give you a baseline of knowledge in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Pathophysiology.   This course will help you move quickly and confidently through the CPC course.   It is available as a self-paced course or a 12-week instructor-led course.

Length of CPC Course:

For Self-paced: the average time for completion is 4 to 8 months with 6-month access to the course material with options for extensions.  The self-paced course gives you flexibility to prepare for the exam, on your own time and pace.

Instructor-led: We offer 12-week courses.  The instructor-led Fundamentals of Medicine course is a 12-week course, in addition to the CPC course time.   In this course you will have classroom-paced training and 1.5 online sessions per week with our AAPC Approved Instructor.  The instructor-led course has the highest exam pass rate.

The Coding Rescue offers a Thursday night, open study class.  You will be able to ask questions about the areas you are not confident in.  (One-on-one is available, by request, if you need additional help)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The CPC training course teaches fundamental medical coding skills for professional services (physician, mid-level providers, etc.) and provides all the CPC exam preparation you need.

The course covers CPT®, HCPCS Level II and ICD-10-CM coding with hand on coding real world, redacted medical records using CPT®, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II code sets.  You will acquire a broad knowledge of reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for professional, physician services.

Medical Coding Objectives:

• Identify the purpose of the CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II code books
• Understand and apply the official ICD-10-CM coding guidelines
• Apply coding conventions when assigning diagnoses and procedure codes
• Identify the information in appendices of the CPT® code book

• Code a wide variety of CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes
• List the major features of HCPCS Level II codes
• Provider practical application of coding operative reports and evaluation and management services
